Coach Jay…thanks for the tips. Currently I am on the list as a possible rider. I have a question and was hoping you might share an insight or two. I am 66 and ride alot during the summer. I don’t use a specific training plan; but usually fit and ready for past rides. I have in the past(once 3 years ago) doubled up on long rides (450 plus) but had a month in between. I am currently signed up with a buddy to do ride Around Washington (August 3-10); I am really wanting to do the Yellowstone ride too; and 90 percent commited. My challenge is how best to train for both; but more specifically how to manage the short time between the end of the first ride and the beginning of the yellowstone ride…so I am strong for that ride aswell. Any thoughts? Ron felde
Ron, I passed your question on to Jay, here’s what he said:
If you have done your training or most of it for your first tour in Washington, you can look at the CGY blog for ideas on that process or contact me directly. The work you do in that first tour will be get a great simulation and have a solid training effect for the CGY tour. Then in the week or two between the rides, I would just do a very light, active recovery week between to rest the legs and body. In order not to get “stale” I would reduce the time on the bike in half, probably only 2-3 rides a week and of 1hr in length with a very easy intensity, just spinning out the legs during the time between your tours. You may have to take it a bit easy on the first couple of days of the CGY but you should be able to start feeling good after that.
Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions just give me a shout
